Halff employees champion local volunteer efforts, impact Oklahoma youth in need

Halff stands out as a leader in engineering but commitment to community goes beyond project planning. The firm’s Halff Community Initiative (HCI) is a nonprofit branch with charitable initiatives across the country and throughout the year; dedicated fundraisers take place each fall in the communities where the company’s employees work and live.

Halff has been present in Oklahoma since 2015, with two office locations in Norman and Oklahoma City. Its headquarters is in Richardson, Texas and 32 total offices make for community presence in five states. “In 2022, HCI donated more than $119,000 to 118 organizations, all selected by Halff employees, across every state we serve,” states the initiative’s website.

This past fall, employees raised approximately $300 to fund school supply donations for Positive Tomorrows, which serves youth experiencing homelessness, and collected more than 600 canned food items for City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City.

The opportunity to give back through office-wide efforts helps employees feel more connected to solving issues beyond their usual day-to-day scope of work. Dakota Gennings, PE, project manager, cited volunteering as a positive within Halff’s workplace culture.

“I enjoy serving my community in any capacity I can find. I spend a lot of my personal time during different events with my local churches and mentoring young adults and youth. I love getting to use a part of my company to continue that outreach to others as well,” said Gennings. “Our office has a lot of thoughtful people who want to help our community. Our purpose statement for Halff mirrors what we want to achieve throughout HCI work: ‘We improve lives and communities by turning ideas into reality.’”

HCI has also donated to the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math)-centered nonprofit ClassMatters and the Oklahoma location of Feed the Children. Additionally, employees have participated in volunteer experiences, including clean-up of N.W. 23rd St., between Western and Walker Ave.
